The Heart of Worship is......

.....total surrender to God!

This is quoted from "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren.

I know I've surrendered to God when I rely on God to work things out instead of trying to manipulate others, force my own agenda, and control the situation. I have to let go and let God. Instead of trying harder, I must trust more. I also know I've surrendered when I don't react to criticism and rush to defend myself.

It might take years, but I will eventually discover that the greatest hindrance to God's blessing in my life is not others, it is myself - my self-will, my stubborn pride and my own personal agenda. I cannot fulfill God's purpose for my life while focusing on my own plans.

I have to give it all to God: my past regrets, my present problems, my future ambitions, my goals, my fears, my dreams, my weaknesses, my habits, my hurts, my frustrations, my hang-ups. Nothing will ever be out of control while it is under His control. I have to tell myself to never be afraid. Mastered by Christ, I can handle anything.

Surrendering is never just a one time event. Paul said, "I die daily." There is a moment of surrender, and there is a practice of surrender, which is moment by moment and lifelong. I have to surrender my life over and over each day, sometimes uncountless times, sometimes 50 times a day. I must make it a daily habit. Jesus said, "If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing to give up their lives daily to follow me."

And deciding to lead a totally surrendered life, I've already been tested. It also means doing inconvenient, unpopular, costly or seemingly impossible tasks. It has often mean't doing the opposite of what I feel like doing.

Now is my time to totally surrender - to God's grace, love and wisdom. I will be the first one to admit I need some help in totally surrendering to Him. It's a day by day process with which I'm still struggling.

Are you holding back from God?
